Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research had three main purposes: (1) to study the efficiency of the Sangha management, (2) to compare views on the efficiency of the Sangha management and (3) to study possible ways and suggestions of developing the Sangha management of the temples at Muang district, Khonkaen province.

The mixed method research was consisted of a quantitative research with the questionnaire and qualitative research with the interview. For the quantitative research, the sample in this research 297 monks, a tool for the data collection, simple Random Sampling with the lottery, 0.84 of the reliability. The qualitative research dealt with the interview to collect data from the simple: the ecclesiastical provincial governor of Knonkaen, theecclesiastical district officer of Muang district, and the Ecclesiastical Commune-Chief of Palab Sub-district of Palap. There was the purposive random sampling. The tool of this research was questionnaire and interview. The analysis of all collected data was done in the SPSS programme about frequency, percentage, mean, and Standard Deviation (S.D.). The hypothesis was proved with the own way analysis of variance. The interview was analyzed in the form of the organized and descried details.

The findings of this research were in the following aspects

      1. A result of this research was found that the efficiency of the Sangha administration within the Buddhist temples, Muang district, Khonkaen was generally in the high level ( =4.40). When all aspects of the Sangha administration was considered, monks’ view on it was in the highest level.

                  2. The comparison of the monks’ view on the efficiency of the Sangha administration at the Buddhist temples, Muang district, Khonkaen was found that the monks’ ages, years, education, Dhamma-Pali education, the Sangha rank, and experience in work were different. However, their general view on the Sangha administration at the Buddhist temples, Muang district, Khonkaen was not different. Thus, this result denied the given hypothesis.

      3. The problems and obstacles were found that the Sangha did not have the budget enough to develop all parts, especially the education, actual chanting, clear working, communication, laziness, non-creation, opposition between the temple and villages, non-respect of the youths to the elder people, habit-forming drug, and elements of destruction. These problems were found in the Sangha and they required the quickly solution. Some suggestion, here, was that to make the limited budget had to be given to the most important projects to develop the Sangha that gave many benefits such as a Dhamma study, a Pali study, repairing the Sangha’s most important things, finding only a technique to make the Sangha work efficiently, actual chanting and Patimokkha made by all the abbot and his students, searching a way to resolve a problem between the temple and villages, training people about the respect to each other, creation of new things for the Sangha, protection of people from the habi-forming drug, and taking care of all people in the village.
